Maid en india

without comments

Like Nitin Malik said, Aah, What a %^&*ing day! Bangalore breathed Iron maiden and rock. It could not have gotten any better than this. A real long time ago, Kean and some other folks from my wing in college decided, watching an Iron maiden show will be our life’s aim. Though that has changed, I still feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

About twelve of my college pals from all over the country had come down, and despite a long weekend (when bangalore generally becomes so empty), the roads were packed. Brigade road/MG Road was filled with black maiden shirts and pubs were overflowing with beer and maiden songs. The crowd and enthu was beyond control.

Sure, gates opened at 3 PM, but there was no real music until 8. In the meantime, we had circled Palace grounds 3 times, Parikrama, Campus rock idols winner F.t.N, the lauren harris band had come and gone, Appu had fainted on dehydration and the crowds were tired of waiting in the queue for water and loo.

But, when the came, they conquered. They did not play one of my favorites “wickerman”. The stage was rocking sexy and so were their music. Thanks maiden. Like you said, please come back before seventeen months.

Steve Jobs demos Apple Macintosh, 1984

without comments

I am a steve Jobs fan. Like big time. The more I see of the man, the bigger his image becomes in my head. Frankly, I have never used a mac in my life and my Ipod got completely screwed in less than a year. But, big deal. This is Jobs!

The grand shivku feed

without comments

I just got around to playing with pipes for a bit. And like everybody else, I have immediately fallen in love with it. Pipes is child’s play and that is what I like about it best. Given sufficient time, my Google Anand should be able to do a mashup. I am gonna try telling him about it this time when i go home.

Oh, Just as an outcome, I have created a grand feed of many of my stuff from the web. If you really like the kinda opinionated stuff I write at blogger and my tech writings ( well, I hardly do that anymore ) from LiveJournal and the links that I keep stumbling upon from delicious, then you could subscribe to the feed here. I will keep adding more of my feeds and one day, when my real home on the web is ready, I would put it up there too. I have also created a link to this feed on the right pane.

So, yeah. Happy piping. I love the ingenuity in naming this product. Rock on! Yahoo!

Google does Australia

with 2 comments

Remember a little while ago, Google did India ? Now, it adds australia to it’s kitty. And this time, it is not just the map, but search (Geocoding) and driving directions as well. Australian maps are sweetly inter operable, that is, you can get to it from the .au site or the .com site. The header div in the Australian site is atrociously large (atleast on firefox) and hence the map div is quite small.

I am assuming the .au site is tolerable down under, because from here, it is quite slow. Another thought is, now that they are slowly making many corners of the world map-able under the same destination, shouldnt the frontpage be different for each of us? That is, if my IP is from India, Shouldnt I be seeing the India front map with sample queries for Indian addresses ?

Also, If maps.google.com.au is beta, and if the same map data is available via maps.google.com, how is that not beta ? Incidentally, the route to the Google’s sydney headquarters is itself turning up incorrectly.

By the way, here is an australian sample query for driving directions “2000 to bondi beach”. What kind of a place is 2000 ? :) Does it exist on the X/Y Plane? Or we are travelling back in time from the year 2000? I wonder!

But that apart, I noticed they are strangely blending something like the web results with the local search results. For instance, every second result for a query such as “undefined” is getting back stuff from I dunno where. Not from web search. Not even from Groups search. Do you have any idea ?

But once again, beautiful colors and gradients and the icons seem to merge well. The experience between US and AU maps is also seamless. Talking of seam, Check out the wonderful MCG(Melbourne cricket Ground) here
